Northallerton Leisure Centre’s swimming pool has been shut down as the council investigates problems with one of the air handling units at the pool.

Hambleton District Council says it will be closed until further notice as it carries out “essential maintenance work” and investigates problems with one of the pool’s air handling units.

The local authority says the rest of the centre, including the gym, sauna and fitness suite are all open for business as usual and unaffected by the problem.

Head of leisure services, Steve Lister said:  “We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this unexpected problem but safety is always our top priority and we must undertake a full check of the pool area before we re-open.

“That includes checking all the ceiling units in the pool area – as well as units in our other centres in Stokesley, Bedale and Thirsk.

“We will let customers know as soon as we re-open but please visit www.hambleton.gov.uk/zestfor updates.”
