Two people have been charged with drugs offences following a series of police raids as part of a lengthy investigation into suspected drug supply across the Hambleton area.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police’s Hambleton Neighbourhood Policing Team and Operation Sentry executed three warrants on Thursday, July 16 at addresses in Great Ayton and Guisborough, supported by the British Transport Police County Lines Task Force and Cleveland Police.

During the operation, officers recovered weapons from one property in Great Ayton and a small quantity of drugs from another address in the village. A large quantity of suspected Class A drugs was also seized from a property in Guisborough.

A 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs, being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs, and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Both were later charged and appeared before York Magistrates’ Court on Friday, July 17. They were remanded into custody before being granted conditional bail ahead of their next court appearance at Teesside Crown Court on Friday, August 14.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Rory Sadler said: “Drug-related crime causes significant harm to our communities, which is why tackling those involved in the supply of illegal drugs remains a priority for us.

“These warrants and arrests are the result of a lengthy investigation and demonstrate our commitment to disrupting criminal activity and protecting the public.

“By working closely with our policing partners, we are able to identify those suspected of being involved in the supply of drugs, remove illegal substances from our streets and bring offenders before the courts.

“I would encourage anyone with concerns about suspected drug activity in their community to report it to us. Every piece of information helps us build a clearer picture and take positive action.”
