Pupils from North and South Cowton Community Primary School braved appalling conditions to compete in the county cross country competition at Dalby Forest.

Five key stage two children took part in the event on Tuesday, including year three student Connie Wilford, who ran with a fractured knee cap.

Connie came fifth in her year group.

Aiden Johnson and Wilf Lamb represented year four boys and Freya Wilford ran for year five and came 27th.

Isaac Lamb ran for year six and came around 20th.

The children had to come in the top five during the heats at Richmond School in order to progress to the finals at Dalby.

Teacher Sarah Morrice said: “The children are very keen sportspeople and braved appalling conditions and a very slippery course.

“All five children thoroughly enjoyed their day and are keen to continue their involvement in sport.

“We are so proud of their achievements both at Richmond and Dalby Forest. They have shown amazing resilience and dedication to sport, and have all improved their own performances.”
