Motorist cut free by firefighters after A19 crash

A motorist had to be cut free by firefighters after a crash on the A19 this morning.

The collision occurred at around 10.20am on the southbound carriageway between the Ellerbeck and Northallerton junctions.

Police and fire crews from Ripon and Northallerton attended after a vehicle collided with the central reservation after being hit by another vehicle.

Firefighters released the casualty from the car by removing the roof using electrical cutters, spreaders, a thermal image camera and small tools.

The casualty was left in the care of the ambulance service and transported to hospital.

It is understood the driver and another occupant are both now recovering at home following the incident.
