Firefighters called after dog starts kitchen fire

Firefighters have blamed a dog for starting a fire in a kitchen.

Crews from Thirsk and Northallerton were called to reports of a fire at a house in Thirlby, near Thirsk, at about 4pm yesterday.

A dog lead had been left on the hob and it is though a dog had then accidentally switched the hob on.

The fire spread to a kettle and extractor fan.

The fire was out when firefighters arrived.

The crews inspected and ventilated the premises.

The fire caused minimal damage to the lead, kettle and fan.
