A Brompton-on-Swale-based meat processing company has gone into administration, placing 140 jobs at risk.
Holmesterne Farm Co. Limited has entered administration, with joint administrators appointed through the High Court in Leeds.
The company’s principal trading address is at Gatherley Road Industrial Estate, Brompton-on-Swale, but it also has a unit at Leeming Bar.
According to the company’s website, Holmesterne was established in 1986 and operated from two manufacturing plants in North Yorkshire, supplying value-added meat and vegetable products to retailers, manufacturers and food service customers.
The business originally started as a catering butchery before expanding into a wider food production operation. Its product range included raw, cooked, chilled, ambient and frozen meat and vegetable products.
At its Brompton-on-Swale site, in-house butchers processed red meat and poultry in raw, chilled and frozen form, while also producing products including meatballs, barbecue items and stuffings.
The company’s second site at Leeming Bar focused on cooked meats as well as roasted and steamed vegetables supplied chilled, frozen or ambient stable.
Holmesterne also operated a development kitchen, working with clients to turn food concepts into commercial products for the retail, manufacturing and food service sectors.
James Clark and Howard Smith of Interpath Ltd were appointed as joint administrators on Monday, May 11.
The appointment was made in the High Court of Justice, Business and Property Courts in Leeds under case reference CR-2026-LDS-000500.
In a statement, Interpath said the company’s affairs, business and property are now being managed by the joint administrators, who are acting as agents of the company and without personal liability.
It was announced last year that about 140 jobs have been saved by the acquisition of Holmesterne by Leeds-based Troy Foods.
