A Stokesley artist has been shortlisted for a major international prize.

Christopher Cook is in the running for the Sunny Art Prize 2019.

The winners get the opportunity to show their work in Shanghai, London, and Beijing, and to travel on an extended residency organized in collaboration with established Chinese art institutions, allowing artists to engage with historically and culturally rich sites in China.

The art competition takes submissions from around the world, in all contemporary art mediums.

From thousands of entries, 27 artists are shortlisted, from which three winners will be selected.

Christopher Cook was born in Great Ayton and lived in Stokesley until leaving for University in Exeter.

Since then he has lived and worked around the world, but returns often to Broughton and Stokesley where his parents live.

This autumn he is working with York Art Gallery on a project entitled The Making of a Masterpiece in which his works will be set alongside Dutch Old Master paintings.

The Sunny Art Prize will be judged on October 1, but before then you can support Christopher’s work via social media at
