A drop-in welfare service is taking place at a council headquarters for serving and veteran members of the armed forces and their families.

The Royal British Legion-run service takes place on the second Thursday of every month from 10am until 2pm at the Civic Centre in Northallerton. Hambleton District Council says it wants to show its support for the armed forces by hosting the monthly service.

At the sessions, the legion’s case officer Steve Gaughan, will be on hand to give advice and support on debt management, housing and other welfare services. He will also discuss membership for those wanting to join the legion.

“My welfare sessions in Northallertonare part of the Legion’s mission to bring our services closer to those who need it most,” said Steve.

“We provide lifelong support for anyone who has served for more than seven days in the Royal Navy, British Army or Royal Air Force and their families.

“I am available for face to face meetings to discuss any issues and I urge people to take the opportunity to call in if they need advice on housing support, welfare including separation, managing personal finances plus much more.”
