A local business has raised more than £7,000 for a new scanner for the Friarage Hospital.

Northallerton business CB Furnishings has raised more than £7,000 for the Clinical Decision Unit at the town’s hospital.

CB Furnishings manager Jo Spence was made aware that the hospital was in desperate need of a bladder scanner for patients, so the decision was made to host a charity event to raise the vital funds.

The company, based on Standard Way, Northallerton, specialises in curtains, fabric, beds and home accessories.

The store organised a month-long event, whereby £1 was donated for every £10 spent by their customers, up to a maximum of £100, throughout November. Customers also received a ticket for a special prize draw.

Jo and fellow managers Sarah Jarrett, Julia Grainger, Karen Boynton and Mike Rowley contacted their network of suppliers to gather prizes for the draw.

More than 50 prizes were donated and the draw took place on November 30 when CB Furnishings was joined by the Friends of the Friarage, who held a tombola in store.

CB Furnishings general manager Vic Ison said: “As an independent local retailer of 33 years we were pleased to support a much-needed local cause, culminating in our donation of £7,146. I would like to thank all of my staff for their hard work and dedication.”
