Thieves steal £11,000 of power cables from North Yorkshire installation site

Police are appealing for witnesses after around £11,000 worth of conductive cable was stolen from a power infrastructure project near Shipton-by-Beningbrough.

The theft took place between 9pm on Wednesday, 20 May and 7.30am on Thursday, 21 May, at a site between Hunting Lodge Farm and Blue Bridge Whinn.

At the time, engineers working for Northern Powergrid were installing new power supply poles across fields in the area.

The stolen cable is estimated to be worth approximately £11,000.

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area, or who has information that could assist the investigation, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or via the North Yorkshire Police website, quoting reference 12260092616.

Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen vehicles or individuals acting suspiciously near the site during the overnight period.
