Stokesley Police have stepped up high visibility patrols following a spate of thefts from farms and other properties in surrounding rural areas.
This week, officers have been patrolling areas including Chop Gate and the edge of the North York Moors in a bid to deter crime and reassure the public. It comes after a spate of thefts of agricultural vehicles from farm buildings.
These have included a Cushman farm vehicle stolen from Easby, on the edge of the moors near Great Ayton and other burglaries.
Police are reminding people to fit British Standard deadlocks to all outside doors on farm buildings, sheds and other outbuildings and reinforce them with strong bolts.
Officers also advised people to photograph and make a record of possessions and mark garden tools and ornaments with a post codes using a UV pen.
Stokesley Police posted on Facebook: “Vehicles, tractors, trailers, caravans, horseboxes and quadbikes are an attractive target for thieves. Where you can, keep your vehicles in a lockable garage or building.
“If this is not possible, consider installing security lighting. Speak to your dealership about anti-theft devices such as alarms, immobilisers and trackers.”
