Police seek car transporter driver after serious A19 collision leaves motorcyclist in hospital

Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious collision on the A19 near Birdforth left a motorcyclist in hospital.

The crash happened shortly before 10am on Friday, June 5, and involved a white Honda CBR-600 motorcycle and a white single-vehicle car transporter. Both vehicles were travelling northbound towards Thirsk at the time of the incident.

North Yorkshire Police said the car transporter failed to stop at the scene following the collision.

The motorcyclist, a 30-year-old man from the York area, was taken to York Hospital, where he remains receiving treatment.

Emergency services attended the incident and the A19 was closed for around two hours while officers carried out collision investigation work. The road reopened at around midday.

Police are now urging anyone who witnessed the collision, saw either vehicle before the incident, or has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.

Investigators are particularly keen to trace the white car transporter involved and establish the circumstances leading up to the collision.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “Shortly before 10am today, Friday 5 June, a serious collision occurred on the A19 at Birdforth.

“The collision involved a white Honda CBR-600 motorcycle and a white single-vehicle car transporter, both travelling northbound towards Thirsk.

“The car transporter failed to stop at the scene.”

Officers are urging anyone who may have been travelling on the A19 near Birdforth at the time of the collision to check any dashcam footage that could assist their enquiries.
