Driver interviewed after A172 crash near Stokesley leaves man injured

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a two-vehicle collision on the A172 near Stokesley.

The crash happened shortly before 7am on Friday, June 5, on the stretch of road between the Cleveland Tontine and Stokesley.

North Yorkshire Police said the collision involved a grey Ford Puma travelling northbound towards Stokesley and a silver Kia Rio travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Kia, a man in his 30s from the Middlesbrough area, suffered minor injuries in the collision.

The driver of the Ford, a man in his 40s from the Pontefract area, was uninjured. Police confirmed he has since been interviewed in connection with driving offences.

Emergency services attended the scene and the A172 was closed for around two and a half hours while officers carried out investigations and recovery work. The road reopened at approximately 9.30am.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle before the incident to come forward.

They are also keen to hear from motorists who may have captured the collision or the moments leading up to it on dashcam footage, as well as anyone with relevant CCTV recordings from the area.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a collision on the A172 at Swainby, near Stokesley.

“Shortly before 7am today, Friday 5 June, we were called to a two-vehicle collision between the Cleveland Tontine and Stokesley.”
