Northallerton centre illuminated in remembrance

Hambleton’s council headquarters have turned red this week to honour those who died or were affected by war.

The Civic Centre in Northallerton has been illuminated in red as part of a series of events by Hambleton District Council to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War and to remember those who were affected by war at home and overseas.

Three wicker bi-planes, reminiscent of the aircrafts of that time, incorporating the iconic poppy are currently being suspended from the ceiling at the Civic Centre.

The artwork is on display during normal opening hours from 8.45am until 5.15pm Monday to Thursday and from 8.45am to 4.45pm on Fridays until November 16.

Residents and visitors still have time to submit their entries into a prize draw after following a soldier trail in each of the district’s five market towns. The closing date for entries is November 16.
