Arrest made after vehicle driven illegally around Northallerton

A male was arrested after a vehicle suspected of being driven illegally failed to stop for police in Northallerton last night.

Police say they received information from the community that a vehicle was being driven around the Northallerton area by a male without a driving license, no insurance and vehicle defects.

A spokesperson for Hambleton neighbourhood policing team said: “Through great teamwork between the community and police the vehicle was located, which resulted in a pursuit around the Brompton and Northallerton area as the driver failed to stop for the police.

“The occupants decamped from the vehicle after driving across fields and a male was later arrested on suspicion of various driving offences.”

It is understood the police helicopter was used in the search for the occupants.

A number of residents said on social media last night that they had seen the high-speed chase, with one saying they had nearly been hit by the fleeing vehicle.
