Firefighters were called to reports of a combine harvester fire near South Otterington on Monday evening.
Crews from Northallerton and Thirsk were dispatched to the incident at 5.43pm.
On arrival, firefighters found the combine harvester was not on fire, with the blaze confined to an area of field measuring about three metres by 15 metres.
The fire was extinguished using beaters and knapsack sprayers, preventing it from spreading further.
Fire crews also gave fire safety advice to the person responsible at the scene.
