Police are appealing for information after two suspects fled from a Range Rover that crashed into the side of a house in Topcliffe following a short pursuit during the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The incident began at around 3.10am today when a North Yorkshire Police Roads Policing officer spotted a silver Range Rover travelling at speed on the northbound A1(M) near Boroughbridge.
After the driver failed to stop, a pursuit was authorised, with support from the National Police Air Service helicopter.
The vehicle left the motorway and headed towards Topcliffe before crashing into the side of a property on East Lea at around 3.20am.
Officers quickly arrived at the scene and received reports that a man and a woman had run away from the vehicle following the collision.
Fortunately, nobody inside the house was injured despite the significant impact.
An extensive search of the area was launched involving police officers, a police dog unit, a drone and the helicopter. However, despite the coordinated response, neither suspect has yet been located.
Investigators are continuing enquiries to identify and trace the pair, with assistance from Cleveland Police, as the Range Rover is registered within their force area.
The damaged vehicle has since been recovered and will undergo a forensic examination as officers continue their investigation.
North Yorkshire Police are now urging anyone who witnessed the incident, saw the vehicle before the crash or has relevant CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police by calling 101 and quoting reference number 12260111681.
Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or by submitting an online report.
Police say public assistance could prove vital as efforts continue to locate the man and woman who fled the scene following the crash.
