Wensleydale Railway will run a special park and ride train service when the Tour of Britain cycle race comes to Leyburn next month.
The heritage railway will operate five trains between Leeming Bar, Bedale and Leyburn on Saturday, September 5, when Stage Four of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men’s Race finishes in the town.
With road closures and heavy traffic expected, the railway says the service will allow spectators to park outside Leyburn and travel to and from the race by train.
The final service will leave Leyburn at 6.30pm, giving visitors time to remain in the town for celebrations following the finish.
Wensleydale Railway has also teamed up with the Little White Bus to provide a free shuttle between Leyburn railway station and the Market Place.
The shuttle will be free for rail passengers, although donations towards the community bus service will be welcomed.
Longer trains will operate to provide additional capacity, including extra space for bicycles.
Bikes can be carried free of charge with a valid train ticket and do not need to be dismantled before boarding.
Wensleydale Railway’s station cafés will also be open throughout the day.
Nick Keegan, the railway’s marketing and fundraising manager, said: “If you’re heading to the race – with or without a bike – why not let our trains take the strain?
“Leave the car behind, sit back and enjoy a relaxing scenic train journey with us.
“With five trains to choose from, you have plenty of time to spend the day in and around Leyburn before enjoying the race finish.”
Families will also be able to use the railway’s Kids for a Quid offer, allowing children aged three to 15 to travel for £1 when accompanied by a full-paying adult.
Railway volunteers will also have a stall in Leyburn Market Place alongside other local heritage and cultural attractions.
The men’s Tour of Britain begins in Lincoln on September 2, with Stage Four finishing in Leyburn on September 5.
