Tour de Yorkshire winners get Bedale gin prize

Tour de Yorkshire stage winners went home with a special reminder of Hambleton following their visit to Bedale on Friday.

Host local authority Hambleton District Council worked with Masons Gin to create an exclusive Tour de Yorkshire gin to give to the two stage winners.

Masons has been based in Bedale since it was set up six years ago by Karl and Cathy Mason – they are currently working out of Bedale Hall and the Leeming Bar Industrial Estate following a devastating fire at their Aiskew Road premises.

“They pulled out all the stops to create the Hambleton Tour de Yorkshire gin which we were very proud to be able to present to the ladies stage one winner, Lorena Wiebes, and the mens stage two winner, Rick Zabel,” said council leader, Councillor Mark Robson.

“The race’s visit to Bedale was a massive success for the town – thousands of people turned out to see the riders and enjoy the party atmosphere in the town.

“We gave them all a true Hambleton welcome and put Bedale on the TDY map.”

Karl Mason added: “Despite the fire setting us back we were determined to get some gin created for the TDY womens and mens winners – Masons Gin is now an established part of Bedale so it seemed like a fitting prize.”
