Thirsk Falcons raise over £2,000 in less than 24 hours after arson attack on equipment store

An appeal launched by Thirsk Falcons FC after an arson attack on their equipment store raised more than £2,000 in less than 24 hours.

The fund now stands at more than £2,600 after over 100 people made donations to help the club get back on its feet.

Launching the appeal the club said: “The club were devastated to find that the equipment cabin had been set alight by arsonists.

“This cabin was our main storage unit for our grassroots football team. All the items in the cabin were burnt and destroyed.

“As well as the usual sports equipment, we also had a storage area for the clubs line marking equipment and paint which was all burnt up in the fire.

“This will unfortunately have an effect on our junior teams the most in what is an already difficult time.

“This is a huge setback for the club as they look to expand to new levels in the new season.”

Crews from Thirsk, Northallerton and Ripon were called to the blaze at the clubs Newsham Road site at 12.49pm on Sunday afternoon and police are still hunting the arsonists.

Two youths were seen running from the scene at about 12.50pm.

Police would like to speak to the pair who are aged around 14 or 15.

Police say one was wearing a dark tracksuit and the other was riding a bike and had “big dark curly hair”.

Anyone with information should call North Yorkshire Police on 101.
