The Polar Express returns to Wensleydale Railway for Christmas 2026

The Polar Express™ Train Ride at the Wensleydale Railway.

The popular Polar Express train ride is returning to Wensleydale Railway this Christmas, with tickets now on sale for the festive experience.

The attraction, which has become a Christmas tradition for many families, will run on selected dates between November 13 and December 23, departing from Leeming Bar Station.

Now in its seventh year at Wensleydale Railway, the event brings the much-loved 2004 film The Polar Express to life with an immersive theatrical experience aboard a steam train.

Passengers are encouraged to arrive wearing their pyjamas, just like the children in the film, with many families choosing matching outfits for the occasion.

The experience begins on a snow-covered platform, where families wait for the train to arrive before boarding and taking their seats at lantern-lit tables.

During the hour-long round trip towards the North Pole, performers recreate scenes from the film, with the conductor punching golden tickets and dancing chefs serving hot chocolate and cookies.

Passengers can also read along with the original story by Chris Van Allsburg, while characters including the mysterious Hobo make appearances throughout the journey.

A highlight of the experience is a visit from Father Christmas and his elf assistant, who make their way through the carriages to present each passenger with a silver sleigh bell, representing the first gift of Christmas.

The journey concludes with Christmas carols before passengers return to Leeming Bar, where they can visit the festive gift shop.

The event is being organised by PNP Events in partnership with Wensleydale Railway, Rail Events Inc. and Warner Bros.

The Polar Express experience has attracted families to the heritage railway for the past six years and forms part of an international attraction welcoming more than 1.5 million passengers annually across 54 locations worldwide.

Tickets for this year’s event cost between £35.95 and £57.95, depending on the date and departure time, with first-class tickets also available.

All passengers receive a souvenir golden ticket and silver sleigh bell.

Organisers are encouraging families to book early, with popular dates expected to sell out.

PNP Events will also continue supporting the Cairngorm Reindeer Herd, donating 5p from every biodegradable carrier bag sold in its on-site shops towards the upkeep of Britain’s only free-ranging reindeer herd.

The experience departs from Wensleydale Railway’s Leeming Bar Station, on Leases Road.
