Work on Tanton Bridge near Stokesley to make a safer crossing for drivers and pedestrians has been completed.
North Yorkshire County Council carried out the work on the B1365, which involved widening the bridge to accommodate two way traffic and creating a footpath at either side.
County Councillor Bryn Griffiths, member for Stokesley, said: “The old bridge was relatively narrow.
“Over recent years, vehicles have become significantly larger and with the increase in traffic – ultimately from new housing developments in Stokesley – there have been numerous repairs due to collisions.
“This work ensures that Tanton Bridge is now fit for the future.”
The appearance of the bridge has been maintained with the dismantled walls being reused.
The reconstruction is in keeping with the same ashlar stone used when it was built.
County councillor Don Mackenzie, executive member for highways, added: “The coronavirus restrictions did bring some problems but the delay was kept to a minimum and we even made up some of the lost time.
“I’d like to thank our contractors for delivering such a successful project and the public for their patience while the work was being carried out. The bridge is now able to meet the traffic demands of the 21st Century.”
