Sheep attacked by dog in Great Ayton

A sheep had to be put down after being attacked by a dog in Great Ayton.

Police are appealing for information following the incident in the field directly opposite Great Ayton High Street, at about 3.30pm on Monday, January 25.

It is believed three men were in the field with a lurcher-type dog which was off its lead.

Police say that as a result of the attack, a sheep was left with severe injuries, and the farmer was left with no alternative but to end its suffering.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify the three males involved.”
