Richmond MP Rishi Sunak has applied for permission to build a swimming pool and tennis court at his constituency home.

The Chancellor has submitted a planning application to Hambleton District Council for the work at Kirby Sigston Manor, at Kirby Sigston, near Northallerton.

The 20m pool would be ‘L’ shaped, according to the plans.

Documents submitted with the application show the pool house would also include a hot tub, utility and changing area, and a plant room.

Mr Sunak’s planning agent said it had been designed to look like a “stone-built agricultural building that has undergone renovation”.

Planning documents state: “The proposed new building has been designed to have the appearance of a typical, stone built agricultural building that has under gone renovation and modification.

“Being single storey, it would be of a sufficiently low profile to not be visible from any nearby publicly accessible land as being well screened by mature trees.

“The location of the proposed development is over 100m away from
the listed Manor House and would also be largely screened by existing mature trees and therefore would only be minimally visible from the listed building.”

The application has the support of the local parish council.
