Firefighters from Thirsk and Northallerton were called to a flat fire in Thirsk last night.
The fire started in the bedroom of the ground floor flat.
The occupier was out on arrival of the fire crews and was taken to hospital suffering smoke inhalation.
The bedroom was gutted by fire and the rest of the flat suffered smoke damage.
Fire crews used four breathing apparatus, two hose reels and two thermal imaging cameras at the scene.
