Police have issued a warning to young people following reports of anti-social behaviour in and around Thirsk Market Place.
North Yorkshire Police say officers are working with partner organisations and have identified a number of young people they intend to speak to about their behaviour.
The warning follows complaints about anti-social behaviour in the town centre and surrounding areas.
Police say they will not tolerate intimidation, criminal damage, underage drinking, littering, irresponsible cycling or behaviour causing alarm, harassment or distress.
Officers have warned that those responsible could face consequences ranging from being spoken to by police and having their parents contacted to formal warnings, arrest and prosecution.
A police spokesperson said: “Anti-social behaviour may seem harmless to some, but it can have a significant impact on local residents, businesses, and visitors.”
The force also warned that criminal convictions could have longer-term consequences for young people, potentially affecting future employment, education, travel and career opportunities.
Parents and guardians are being encouraged to speak to their children about their behaviour when out with friends and remind them to respect others in the community.
Police added: “Let’s work together to keep Thirsk a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable place for everyone.”
Anyone witnessing anti-social behaviour is encouraged to report it to North Yorkshire Police by calling 101.
