The occupants of a stolen car ran off after abandoning the vehicle last night.

The white Ford failed to stop for police in Thirsk.

The vehicle was abandoned and the occupants ran off.

A search using police helicopter, firearms officers and a dog unit was carried out but the thieves escaped.

Police say forensic tests will now be carried out on the vehicle in a bid to trace the occupants.

The vehicle had been stolen from the Humberside area and was on false plates.
