Northallerton Business Network has celebrated its sixth anniversary.

The group which usually meets on the first Monday of every month between 5pm and 7pm, is an opportunity for business people from the area to get together informally to socialise, exchange ideas, learn new skills, discuss problems, find solutions and generate new business.

Additional support for members is also available via a range of business service organisations who can help with finance and digital/technical solutions.

Gill Carnell, co-founder of the network and owner of Secrets of Software, said: “We want to bring people together with the aim of business improvement while also helping to promote their business to others.

“It’s all very informal and relaxed. There is no hard sell, no prescribed outcomes, and no pressure.

“I think because of this approach, people genuinely enjoy attending and make lasting business connections at the same time.

“Thanks to our valuable volunteer organisers and our growing membership we have gone from strength to strength and now have regular meeting attendances of 30 to 40.”

Northallerton Business Network is free to attendees.

This is possible because of the support of business members who take it in turn to sponsor each event with the provision of refreshments.

If they wish, these sponsors are then able to deliver a short presentation or workshop to the audience on the evening.

Attendees come from a wide variety of different business backgrounds, ranging from retailers, accountants and construction personnel, to web site designers and trainers. The size of member businesses varies from sole-traders to larger businesses employing many staff.

Gill said: “We often hear ideas about how to reward and praise employees but what if you’re a sole-trader or micro-business?

“How do you tell yourself that you’re doing a great job and celebrate your own achievements?  As October 2019 was our sixth anniversary, we decided to help each other do exactly that.

“At the birthday event we took the opportunity to celebrate the successes and achievements of all the businesses in our network, with a great big collective ‘pat on the back’.”

Kate Slater, PR and brand marketing expert, said: “This is a really friendly, useful business network.

“I’ve only recently moved into the area and within a year, I’ve made some valuable connections, learnt how to make iPhone films for social media and generated excellent business leads and enjoyed the Monday experience every time.”

Colin Hutson, CEO of Colin Hutson Accounting, said: “We have networked like crazy these last 6 years which helped us grow from 4 staff to now 16. Northallerton Business Network suits our style as it is totally informal networking without targets or strict agenda. Well done NBN on 6 successful years”

Events take place on the first Monday of each month between 5pm and 7pm.

The next Northallerton Business Network event will be hosted by the Evolution Business Centre in Northallerton on Monday, November 4.

If you have a business based in Hambleton, register and come along.

The organising team would be delighted to see new and existing members and are keen to welcome larger companies.

There is no charge for attendance, and tea or coffee with biscuits are provided. If you would like to give it a try, further details are available on the website www.northallertonbiznet.co.uk “
