A new scheme designed to reduce loneliness and isolation starts this week in Northallerton.

Primetime is a Hambleton District Council initiative which uses low intensity sports such as Boccia and New Age Curling as a way of encouraging people of all ages and abilities to come and play together.

The new club which is being funded by a grant from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme  will target older people and be based at Age UK’s new premises on Zetland Street, Northallerton.

A free taster session is taking place on Friday, December 7, 10am to 12noon.

Regular sessions will then commence in January which will cost £3 a session.

“We are very proud of our Primetime programme, which brings people together to take part in low intensity physical activity but more importantly provides social interaction which is vital in combating loneliness and isolation, particularly for our older residents’ said Councillor Bridget Fortune, portfolio holder for Leisure, pictured at a recent  Primetime event in Thorlthorpe.

“Primetime has proved a huge success in other areas such as Husthwaite, Topcliffe and more recently Thorlthorpe so we are delighted to start Northallerton Primetime.”
