Masons announce plans for new distillery after fire

Karl and Cathy Mason.

Nine months after a devastating fire that destroyed their distillery, Masons Yorkshire Gin have announced plans for a new facility.

The purpose build distillery will be created on the Leeming Bar Industrial Estate.

The company says it will be open-plan, multi-purposed and will enable increased capacity to help them meet their growth plans.

A huge fire gutted their premises in Aiskew on April 2.

A fire started inside the building and caused the entire distillery to go up in flames, destroying everything.

After the fire was safely extinguished, the Masons team gathered round the dining table of founders Karl and Cathy Mason to draw up an emergency contingency plan.

Within 24 hours, plans were put in place and there were no delays in production.

Karl said: “It goes without saying that without the incredible response from the fire department and the support we have received from our staff, community and our industry colleagues, we would not be in the fortunate position we are in today.

“When re-creating our distillery, it was essential we kept everything under one roof. We built our brand by working closely with our team, so we can’t wait to have everyone back together.”

The new distillery will open in early 2020 and will house the production, bottling plant and offices.
