Judging has taken place to find Northallerton’s ‘best dressed business’ ahead of the arrival of the world cycling championships next week.

Fifty six shops and businesses have embraced the spirit of the race which comes to town on 25 September.

They have decorated their windows with bunting, flags, flowers, knitted rainbow jerseys, bikes and other items to depict one of the nations which are taking part.

They were each given a rainbow coloured bike to help them on their way by the district council which organised the competition with Northallerton Town Council and Northallerton BID.

The race will bring in some of the top cyclists from across the globe for the start of the men’s elite time trials outside the Town Hall.

“We were staggered by the standard of the entries,” said chairman of Hambleton District Council, Councillor Kevin Hardisty.

“Due to the imagination of some of the businesses it made it very difficult for us to come up with a winner. They have gone to a lot of effort to find things relating to their adopted country.

“We want the town to be remembered and for people to come back again in the future. They were all winners in our eyes.”

The winner will be revealed before the start of the race.
