Almost 1,000 vintage and classic vehicles will descend on Lower Wensleydale next weekend for the 39th Hunton Steam Gathering.
The annual heritage, vintage and craft fair will take place on Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13, with organisers promising one of the biggest events yet.
Run entirely by volunteers, the gathering raises money for local charities and good causes, with more than £14,000 donated following last year’s event.
More than 80 volunteers are involved in staging the show, which celebrates more than 100 years of agricultural and motoring heritage.
This year’s gathering will feature increased entries across its various sections, including more than 30 full-size steam engines and 50 miniature steam engines.
Visitors will also be able to see classic cars and motorbikes, as well as vintage machinery and other historic vehicles.
A pair of Fowler steam ploughing engines will demonstrate traditional methods of working the land throughout the weekend. They will be joined by a horse-ploughing demonstration and a vintage ploughing match on the Saturday.
The main arena will host continuous entertainment including displays by Walworth Castle Birds of Prey and Pennine Carter Bernese Mountain Dogs, classic car driving demonstrations and children’s tug-of-war competitions.
Vintage fairground attractions will include a big wheel, steam-powered gallopers and chair-o-planes.
The event will also feature a growing craft and food market showcasing local suppliers and producers, trade stalls and a large auto-jumble selling tools, equipment and vehicle parts.
Food and drink will be available throughout the weekend, including a Sunday dinner in the refreshments marquee and a bar serving locally produced beers and other drinks.
Live entertainment will also be provided on Friday and Saturday evenings for people camping at the site.
The 70-acre showground is around five miles south of Catterick and six miles from both Bedale and Leyburn, with free parking available.
Admission costs £12 for adults and £6 for children, with under-fives admitted free.
