Hambleton District Council is offering Armed Forces Covenant training for both its staff and those from other local agencies.
The training is aimed at front-line staff who engage with individuals and families on a regular basis.
It provides an overview of the unique challenges of Service life and how staff can help support the Armed Forces Community including veterans.
It helps staff understand and apply the principles of the Covenant at a local level and ensures all staff ask “have you served?”
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation ensuring that those who serve or who have served, and their families, are treated fairly.
It focusses on ensuring members of the armed forces community have the same access to government and commercial services and products as any other citizen.
“It also includes education, having enough money to buy their first house, starting a new career after years of military service and military life and getting on a GPs waiting list but unlike civilian life – they do not know who and where to ask for help and advice,” said Councillor Mrs Bridget Fortune, Hambleton’s Armed Forces champion.
“We honour the commitment that has been given by the men and women of the Armed Forces and pride ourselves on working alongside them and actively encourage local employers to take on ex-servicemen and women.”
