Gold for Northallerton boxing champ Hanna

Northallerton boxer Hanna Holden has won another gold to become the Junior Boxing Champion at the National Championships.

Hanna, 15, who trains every day out of the Phil Thomas School of Boxing in Middlesbrough under the guidance of head coach Craig Carney faced an older, heavier and more experienced boxer in the finals at Loughborough University.

Hanna had to move up a weight category at short notice as she could not safely reach her former weight safely, which put her against an opponent she had met before.

“I wasn’t nervous at all ahead of the fight,” said Hanna.

“I had trained so hard with my coach that I knew I had the strength, stamina and skills to win when it matters.”

Hanna is now national champion three times running and the win will allow her to compete for England in the Three Nations in June and to try out for the European Squad.

“I won Gold for England in the Europeans last year so I’m hopeful I get selected again this year,” said Hanna.

Hanna will take a few days test over Easter but will be back training soon in preparation for the call from England Boxing.
