Gas upgrade works to bring traffic changes in Northallerton

Essential gas upgrade works are set to begin in Northallerton next week, with temporary traffic measures being introduced to allow engineers to replace ageing pipework.

Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out the work to replace older metal gas pipes with new, more durable plastic pipes.

The project aims to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply for homes and businesses across Northallerton, helping to keep properties warm and connected for years to come.

The work, which has been planned with North Yorkshire Council, is expected to continue until around the start of September.

To allow engineers to complete the work safely and efficiently, traffic management measures will be introduced on Grammar School Lane and East Road.

From Monday, July 20, a one-way closure will be in place on Grammar School Lane between Thirsk Road and East Road.

Traffic will continue to be able to travel southbound from East Road towards Thirsk Road.

Once work moves to East Road, a temporary northbound lane closure will be introduced at the junction with Grammar School Lane, continuing towards the traffic lights at The Link.

David Cook, site manager at Northern Gas Networks, apologised in advance for any disruption caused by the works.

He said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it’s vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Northallerton.”

Residents and road users are being advised to plan ahead while the works are taking place.
