A vacant shop in Thirsk Market Place has been given a new look.
Thanks to support from Hambleton District Council’s Vibrant Market Town team the shop has been ‘wrapped’.
“A key priority for the District Council is the appearance of Hambleton’s market towns and how shop fronts of premises that have remained empty for some time can be improved,” said Council Leader, Councillor Mark Robson.
“One solution is shop ‘wrapping’ where an attractive facia is applied in the hope that it will attract a new businesses to occupy it.”
The shop, previously a mobile phone retailer, had been empty for over four years and in that time concerns had been expressed about the state of repair of the shop front and the negative impression it gave of Thirsk to residents, businesses and visitors.
The wrap is designed to show the full potential of the property displaying a virtual interior with shelves piled high with produce. The fascia board also directs potential new owners to further information about the property and the range of support Hambleton District Council provides to both new and existing businesses.
The shop’s new look has already attracted positive comments from the community and it is anticipated that further empty retail premises across the district will be given similar treatment in the next 12 months.
