A planned meeting to determine the future of Newby Wiske Hall has been delayed to allow local people to comment on a revised noise management plan.
Hambleton District Council is dealing with applications for planning permission and listed building consent at the former North Yorkshire police headquarters.
Holiday company PGL is seeking consent to allow the site to be used as a children’s residential centre.
The council had previously resolved to approve both applications but following a legal challenge it agreed that both applications should be re-determined.
Those applications were due to be considered at a special meeting of the planning committee next week.
However, following examination of the revised submission made by PGL this meeting has been cancelled.
The council says environmental health officers have identified ways in which the risk of noise disturbance to local people can be reduced and PGL has been asked to consider amending its noise management plan to achieve this.
Once the amended plan is received the council says it will give local people time to comment on it.
The planning committee meeting will now be held at a later date – at Solberge Hall – once local people have had the opportunity to comment on the revised plan.
They will be contacted when the amendments are available.
“We appreciate that this delay to the determination of the applications may prolong uncertainty,” said planning committee chairman, Councillor Peter Bardon.
“However, the Council is keen to ensure that everyone wishing to make representation on the amendments is able to do so, and that their comments can then be reported to planning committee members.”
