Croft to host Northern Saloon and Sports Car Championship

Croft Circuit will welcome rounds seven and eight of the popular Northern Saloon and Sports Car Championship next Saturday.

The Darlington and District Motor Club-organised series will see a wide range of different saloon and sports cars battle it out across the 2.1-mile North Yorkshire track, including Porsches, Caterhams and Lotus’ amongst other marques.

The championship lead will be up for grabs as current number one Stephen Reece will miss the action next weekend. Following the previous round at Knockhill, Reece took charge at the head of the leaderboard in his Class C Lotus Elise from Drew Myerscough in the Caterham C400 who will be behind the wheel at Croft.

Phil Jordan, also in Class C, is third in the Honda Civic Type R ahead of the Class E1 Caterham 7 of Justin Cox. Seven classes will be competing for the honours, including the new for 2023 class M for standard Mazda MX5s and the BMW Club will also be racing.

Track action gets underway at 9.30am with a practice session before qualifying at 10.15am and the first race will be the BMW Club with race one of their two 20-minute sessions at 1.20pm featuring 325ti, 330ci, E36 and 2 Series models. They will be followed by the opening race of the NSSCC classes B, C, D and M and then the NSSCC classes A and E before repeating the order.

The day will conclude with a 45-minute Challenge Race at 4.30pm which is open to drivers from both the NSSCC and BMW Club. The fastest driver will be paired with the slowest driver to make up a team and the first car will then run on the circuit for 15 minutes before the pit window opens to allow a change to the other car and driver, who will then take it to the finish.

The BMW Club will be presenting the Russ Cockburn Memorial Trophy at the meeting. Russ was a founder member of the BMW Club and a great friend and supporter of NSSCC over the years.

There will also be a display of various BMW machines by the club’s members.

Gates open at 8am and adult admission is just £16.00 in advance (£18.00 on the gate) with accompanied children aged 15 and under admitted free.
