Community housing briefing planned for Husthwaite

Community houisng built in Hudswell near Richmond.

Communities in Hambleton are being asked to come together and put the heart — and home — back into their community.

A special breakfast briefing is being held on Saturday 16 March in Husthwaite Village Hall, near Easingwold, between 10am and 1pm for residents, parish councils, community groups and land owners – tea, coffee and pastries will be provided.

The event will show how ‘community led housing’ enables people of all ages to get together to plan and build affordable homes that meet the current and future needs of their community. The homes are then owned by the community, and the community decides who lives in them.

Housing experts will be on hand to give advice about funding, planning and how to kick start a community led housing project.

Funding is available through the national Community Housing Fund and locally through Hambleton District Council.

Community First Yorkshire, a charity that supports rural communities in North, South and West Yorkshire, is helping residents in Hambleton to tackle the problems of providing local housing for local people at an affordable price.
