A charity is appealing for volunteers to help older people in Hambleton discover the benefits of the digital world.
Age UK North Yorkshire & Darlington is urging people to come forward and help with an innovative iPad lending library.
The scheme is aimed to help people get online for shopping, community groups, video conferencing and digital technology.
Helen Hunter, chief executive of Age UK locally, said the project could make a huge difference to people, especially during the current lockdown.
“We know how isolated and lonely people are at the moment and we’re hoping to find volunteers with a bit of time on their hands who can support older people as the learn and discover the benefits of being online.”
The scheme stretches across the district and is available to anyone aged over 55.
Digital support will be offered along with basic written instructions about the devices.
The iPads will be loaned for a limited period of time and will be ready to use without an internet connection.
Mrs Hunter said: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation, delivering meals, making phone calls, helping out whenever they can and really making a difference to people’s lives.
“We’re asking anyone with a basic interest in technology to come forward and see if they can help get our lending library off the ground and support people.”
