Bedale Bowling Club is inviting potential new members to its weekly practice sessions.

Founded in 1792, members say the club is one of the oldest still on its original site.

Sandra McDougal, spokesperson for the club, said: “This year we are seeing an increase in interested or prospective players, and many are taking up the opportunity of coming along on practice mornings, held every Saturday from 10.30am to 12noon when we offer visitors  a hands on experience, including how to handle the bowls, the rules of the game; and an opportunity to practice with members

“This year, we have had interest from young and old and have recently welcomed Joan, at 91 years young, and Tegan at the tender age of 11, both enthusiastic and enjoying the challenge of the game.

“The club has an attractive club house and an active social calendar for both players and non playing members.”

The club support various charities with fund raising matches during the season, the latest one being the Jim McLean Trophy to be held on Saturday, August 8, raising funds for the Prostate Cancer charity.

The event is open to visitors, with the public invited to call in to watch and support the charity.
