Bedale beat Hartlepool with another record score

Bedale first XI played their last game of the year, looking to finish on a high with a win,

Bedale welcomed Hartlepool 2nd XI to BASA with the visitors needing to win to have any chance of promotion ahead of Darlington who were also battling for the second spot.

Bedale won the toss and chose to have a bat first. With the usual opener running late, captain Danial Rafiq took to the crease with Jack Heads.

The first over set the tone of the game with Dan hitting ten runs from it. Unfortunately, Jack was dismissed for a golden duck which brought Adam Langhorne in to bat.

With nine boundaries, Adam went on to hit 43 off 52. With Sam Owen now at the ground, he came in to partner Dan on his charge.

Dan’s 50 came up in the same over as Bedale’s 100 in the 13th over.

The score continued to hammer along as Dan’s 100 came up off just 68 deliveries.

Not done there, 150 off 88 followed quickly also bringing 250 for Bedale in the 33rd over.

Just five more overs passed and Danial sailed past 200 with a six to put him on 203 off 104 balls.

Helping the score along, Sam made his 50 an over earlier off 63 deliveries. Dan batted deep into the innings, going to the 41st over before being dismissed.

But not before hitting a personal best a club record and a true captains knock of 220 off 116 with eight fours and an amazing 21 sixes. James Kelly and Charlie Coulson came out in succession both putting 12 on the board.

Edward Wick came in and saw the innings out with Sam. Another fantastic batting performance, Sam fell one run short of his 100, however 99 off 107 was another fantastic knock.

Bedale ended their innings with another club record — 417/6 from 50 overs.

Charlie Roberts and Edward Wick opened the bowling with Hartlepool determined to chase down the total.

Hartlepool managed to put 60 on the board before the first wicket fell in the sixth over to Edward.

With some good batting, Hartlepool soon got to 117 in 13 overs. A bowling change saw an immediate impact, with Luke Allen dismissing the opener for 60 being caught by Charlie Coulson.

Another bowling change saw James Kelly also picking up a quick wicket in his second over and his forth, with an LBW and a second catch to Charlie’s name.

With wickets falling to spin, another top end bowling change brought Michael Vd Westhuizen into the attack. James took a third wicket bowling out the No 9.

With Michael getting on the plane back to South Africa the following day, he wanted to finish in style. And in style he did, Michael took wicket after wicket in five consecutive overs for his five-for — three being caught, Edward Jack and Adam taking the catches, an LBW and the final wicket falling to Michael Ingram’s fast hands for a stumping.

Hartlepool ended on 185/all out.

Bedale ran away with an emphatic win by 232 runs in the 31st over. This ended Hartlepool’s promotion dream with Darlington getting a win. Bedale end the season on 403 points, 58 in front of second place Darlington on 345 and 70 ahead of third place Hartlepool who finished on 333.

Next year Bedale CC 1st XI will play in the NYSD Division 1.
