Afternoon tea trains return to Wensleydale Railway

Wensleydale Railway’s afternoon tea train services are back this year, with new menus and extra dates.

The railway is working with a new catering partner, The Green Apple Tree in Northallerton, and says it has “developed new menus to enhance its on-train food offer”.

The service begins with a Valentine’s Day lunchtime train on Sunday, February 18.

This will feature a new mezze sharing platter. The railway will also have afternoon tea trains for Mother’s Day March 10, Easter Sunday, Father’s Day on June 16, and then August 18, September 22 and October 20.

The afternoon tea experience begins with a glass of fizz or orange juice once you take your seat.

As the train departs for Leyburn, the railway’s volunteer staff will serve a choice of tea or coffee and a selection of sandwiches and savoury pastries.

There will be a short rest break in Leyburn and then its back on board the train and time to enjoy a selection of scones and cakes served with more tea or coffee as the train returns to Leeming Bar.

The afternoon finishes with a luxury chocolate.

The tea trains depart Leeming Bar at 2.30pm and the journey lasts around two hours.

Passengers are asked ensure that any food allergies are specified at the time of booking.

The railway’s vintage coaches do not currently have access for wheelchair users. If you have mobility constraints, let staff know at the time of booking and they will do their best to allocate a table close to the access door.

The cost is £45 per adult and £25 for children aged 14 and under.
