A retired medical consultant has been installed as the new president of the Rotary Club of Northallerton Mowbray during an evening that also recognised the outstanding service of two long-standing members.
Sandhya Nadgir succeeds Tony Wood as president for 2026/27, while Elaine Harrison, an energy company executive, has been elected as the club’s vice-president.
The annual handover ceremony also saw Alan Miller and Anand Nadgir presented with Paul Harris Fellowships, one of Rotary International’s highest honours.
The award recognises members who have made exceptional contributions to Rotary’s charitable, educational and humanitarian work.
Both recipients are former presidents of the Northallerton Mowbray club and have served in a variety of senior leadership roles over many years.
Presenting the fellowships, outgoing president Tony Wood praised the pair for their dedication to the organisation.
“Both have made significant and lasting contributions to the work of the club over many years,” he said.
“It was an honour to be able to present Fellowships to them both as my last act as club president.”
Mr Wood also reflected on his own year leading the club and wished his successor every success.
He said he had enjoyed his year as president and was confident Ms Nadgir would have a successful year in office.
As part of her presidency, Ms Nadgir has chosen Dementia Forward as the club’s charity for the coming year. The North Yorkshire charity provides advice, support and practical help to people living with dementia, as well as their families and carers.
The Rotary Club of Northallerton Mowbray supports a range of charitable and community projects locally and internationally, with members raising funds and volunteering throughout the year.
