North Yorkshire Police has issued a CCTV appeal after cash left in a cash machine outside Tesco in Thirsk was allegedly taken.
The incident happened on April 9 at about 5.36pm after a woman withdrew £30 from the ATM outside the supermarket.
Police say the victim became distracted and walked away, accidentally leaving the money in the cashpoint.
According to officers, the cash was then taken by the next person to use the machine.
Police are now trying to identify a woman pictured in CCTV images in connection with the incident.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “We are trying to identify the female in the attached image in relation to a theft in Thirsk.
“On 09/04/26 at 1736hrs the victim has withdrawn £30 from the cashpoint outside Tesco in Thirsk.
“She has become distracted and has walked away having left the money in the cashpoint where it has subsequently been taken by the next person to use the cashpoint.”
