50 cows escape injury after fire breaks out in farm building near Stokesley

Firefighters tackled a blaze involving hay bales in a farm building near Stokesley today.

Crews were called to the incident at Kirkby at about 11.25am.

A crew from Stokesley attended alongside an assisting appliance from Cleveland Fire and Rescue Service.

Firefighters found hay bales which had caught fire inside the agricultural building.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze before the burnt hay was removed from the building.

Around 50 cows were inside the building at the time of the incident, but the fire service confirmed that none of the animals were injured.

The building also escaped fire and smoke damage.

Once the fire had been dealt with, the incident was left with the person responsible for the premises, who used a tractor to empty the remainder of the building.
