Cycling fundraiser visits Northallerton arts centre hit by the pandemic

A charity cycle ride has visited a Northallerton arts centre to raise money for the UK entertainment industry.

The group of five cyclists are touring fifty locations nationwide to highlight the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on the entertainment sector.

The Survival Tour includes some of the UK’s most iconic arts and performance venues which have been forced to close by the pandemic.

The Forum, a community-managed arts centre in Northallerton, was one of the first of the venues included in the 1,500km route.

The Survival Tour is part of the #WeMakeEvents initiative to raise money for those in the entertainment sector whose work has been decimated by lockdowns and social distancing measures.

The initiative is being headed up by industry veterans who have worked with the likes of Coldplay and Taylor Swift.

One of the founders, Steve Reynolds, warned that the UK entertainment industry is on the brink of collapse.

He said: “Most of our friends and colleagues work in this industry and we know their families are suffering […] We couldn’t stand by and let it just disappear without trying to help.”

Manager of The Forum, Anita Lee, thanked The Survival Tour for stopping at the venue:

She said: “We were delighted to host the boys on their nationwide tour for such a great cause. We’re all in this together.”
