Two people arrested after police chases

Two people have been arrested after two police chases in North Yorkshire.

Officers were on routine patrol on the A171 near Whitby at about 8.15pm last night when they attempted to stop a motorbike.

The blue lights were activated but it made off at speed, further units were sent towards the area including the police helicopter (NPAS).

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The rider of the motorbike managed to evade us for a short time, but we were grateful to a member of the public who provided information that led to us locating and arresting the individual.”

A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving with no insurance. Enquiries are continuing

Later on in the night shift, at just before 1am, roads policing officers attempted to stop a vehicle in Malton which subsequently went off road before it was lost.

At 3.20am there was a further sighting of the vehicle in Thirsk.

The spokesperson added:”Hon it’s heels for a second time, our specialist operations officers flooded the area.

“It entered a field again where it was found abandoned. We put a tight containment on the area before a specialist dog unit was brought in which tracked to the location of a suspect.

“A man in his 20s was arrested for various offences including fail to stop and dangerous driving. Enquiries are continuing.

“Working around the clock 24-7 our sights are firmly focused on intercepting those who think that it’s acceptable to use our road network for criminality.

“As usual, we will be back out in force across the weekend covering the 6,000 miles of roads in North Yorkshire working relentlessly looking to disrupt criminal activity.”
