A teenage boy has been arrested after a police pursuit involving a 4×4 ended in a field near Stokesley.
At around 9.05pm on Monday, an officer on patrol near The Green, Stokesley spotted a silver Mitsubishi Shogun travelling at speed towards the High Street.
A Roads Policing Group officer was quickly deployed, but the driver failed to stop and a pursuit was authorised.
During the incident, the vehicle was briefly lost from sight after it broke through a barbed wire fence and drove off-road across farmland.
With assistance from the local community and a significant response from North Yorkshire Police, the vehicle was located abandoned at around 9.40pm. It had become stuck under a fence in a field near Ingleby Greenhow.
A 16-year-old boy from Stockton-on-Tees was arrested ten minutes later after being seen running away from the scene.
Further arrests followed when officers stopped a Teesside-based taxi at around 10.39pm. Two 21-year-old men and a 19-year-old woman, also from Stockton, were detained.
All four suspects have been released on conditional bail following questioning in connection with a number of suspected offences, including dangerous driving, failing to stop, drug-driving, possession of cannabis, theft of a motor vehicle, driving without insurance, and assisting an offender.
Police are continuing their investigation and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to come forward.
