Public invited to help shape future of hospital services

Residents are being urged to share their views on the future of local hospital and healthcare services as University Hospitals Tees launches a series of public listening events.

University Hospitals Tees (UHT) – which brings together North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – provides specialist services to a population of 1.85 million people.

On an average day, its teams deliver 2,598 outpatient appointments, admit 637 patients to hospital and treat 1,010 people in urgent and emergency care.

However, like all NHS organisations, UHT faces significant challenges, including reducing waiting lists, balancing financial and workforce pressures and caring for a growing and ageing population. At the same time, there are opportunities to expand digital technologies and develop new ways of working to maintain high standards of care.

Patients, relatives and carers who have used services in recent months – including at The James Cook University Hospital, University Hospital of North Tees, Friarage Hospital and University Hospital of Hartlepool – are encouraged to complete an online survey or attend a drop-in roadshow event.

Events will take place at:

  • Northallerton Library on Wednesday, March 11 from 1pm to 4pm

  • Stockton Wellbeing Hub on Wednesday, March 18 from 10am to 12 noon

  • Hartlepool College of Further Education on Thursday, March 19 from 9am to 12 noon

  • Middlesbrough Central Library on Wednesday, March 25 from 9am to 12 noon

  • Redcar Library and Community Hub on Tuesday, March 31 from 9am to 12 noon

Chief strategy officer and deputy chief executive Matt Neligan said the feedback would help shape plans for the next decade of hospital and community healthcare services.

“Our clinical teams have been reviewing how our trusts can work better together,” he said. “Now it’s your chance to get involved and help shape the future of your local healthcare services.

“Come and talk to us about the care we provide, what’s important to you and what you think we could do better.”

Residents can also leave feedback online via the UHT survey.
